  • Our well established client, a drilling company based in West African requires an experienced Operations Manager. This will be a challenging position to accommodate the expansion of the mining industry in West Africa where it will be based remotely in rural areas. In joining this fast-growing company one will be required to supervise and manage the operations of multiple drilling rigs and rig personnel. This will include day to day operation management, continuous process improvement, supply chain and roaster organisation, HSE and HR supervision.

Job Description

  • Responsible to supervise and organise rig operations and schedules on a daily basis while ensuring that all drilling operations are planned & executed according to Company and industry best practices and standards
  • Lead and provides day-to-day guidance to field supervisors
  • Review drill reports for all sites and provide required data for invoicing, review new contract scope of work to define potential actions to be taken.
  • Assist in budget planning for the assets fleet. Analyse daily costs and advise on changes and improvements to meet budgets and increase margins.
  • Prepare and maintain long term roaster in collaboration with site supervisors, HSE department and maintenance department to insure efficient and smooth course of operation.
  • Prepare new project start to insure availability of equipment, consumables and team throughout the projects. Prepare close-out procedures to ensure projects are being successfully terminated.
  • Assist in day-to-day onsite supervision when needed, relations with clients and suppliers, provide recommendations to management.
  • Manage client relation to assure transparency and good communication with high degree of customer service.
  • Identify and implement business changes and process improvements to increase operational efficiency and plan for future expansion, provide guidance on operational matters including drill operation evaluation.
  • Maintain rigs and equipment at the highest level of operational efficiency, recommend and approve repairs and maintenance of equipment in collaboration with the Maintenance manager.
  • Anticipate stock requirements to improve supply chain and cost efficiency. Improve supply chain and site requisition processes.
  • Approve AFE and monitor on site and main yard expenditures to insure the best cost effectiveness.
  • Ensure security on site and in the main yard and improve vehicles, fuel and consumables consumption follow-up process.
  • Assess potential recruits, hire, coach, and provide ongoing performance assessment for workers
  • Ensure crews are properly trained and performing work safely
  • In collaboration with HR department, implement training and performance assessment policy throughout the company to provide KPI for workers, positive work environment and careers management.
  • Work in close relation with HSE department to implements and evaluates all safety/HR programs and provide recommendations for continuous improvements. Ensure that HSE program are implemented on site by managers and supervisors.

Minimum Requirements

  • A degree in Mining, Geology or Engineering or a related field
  • 10 to 15 years verified experience in drilling operations management in both exploration and mine environment.
  • Ability to develop project plans that identify resource and budgetary needs.
  • A proven Leader with experience in building and motivating teams. Capacity to use diplomacy inside and outside of the company.
  • Experience of West-African culture and working relations is a plus.
  • Demonstrated communication skills for interaction within the organisation and externally with customers and third-party vendors.
  • Ability to identify problems and take efficient corrective actions
  • Strong Safety Advocate with experience in creating and maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Comfortable with significant growth and overall business change
  • Computer literate (MS Office), ERP (SAGE) is a plus.
