Job Description

  • Optimise and design refrigeration and ventilation systems which ensures health and safety
  • Coordinate the Emergency Preparedness and Response plan
  • Maintain and develop ventilation and occupational hygiene standards
  • Ensure the health and safety strategies are complied with at all times
  • Implement auditing systems to manage flammable gas and the prevention or control of underground fires
  • Ensure that all company practices are always aligned with the best strategies and technical standards
  • Manage and maintain asset and cost mechanisms
  • Ensure legal compliance at all times
  • Operate, calibrate and maintain instrumentation
  • Conduct, record and report any atmospheric contaminant sampling requested by an inspector

Minimum Requirements

  • Chamber of Mines Certificate in Environmental Control (NQF 7)
  • Degree/ Diploma in the relevant field
  • Exp. in Emergency preparedness and Response Management
  • Exp. in the design and optimisation of complex ventilation and refrigeration systems on a deep level mine is essential
  • Exp. in the design and management of systems for the prevention of underground fires and flammable gas explosions is essential
  • Exp. in managing Occupational Hygiene Programmes
  • 5 years’ exp in heading up the Ventilation And Occupational Hygiene department on a shaft
  • 2 years’ exp. on a management level within the ventilation department is essential
  • Membership of the Mine Ventilation Society of South Africa (MVSSA) would be advantageous
  • Valid Red Ticket or medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate of fitness
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Valid drivers’ license
